If you've been following our scribblings for a while you'll know that Cambodians celebrate the New Year three times - on Jan 01, Chinese New Year in February and then the Khmer New Year in April. The first one is fairly low key, CNY is quite opulent and emphasises eating and the giving of gifts, while the Khmer version seems to last for ever and be about having fun with friends and family. Have a read about the traditional activities we're hoping to see over the next few days - better watch out for the water fights! One thing we haven't noticed is the giving of cards here - the New Year seems quite uncommercialised, much like Christmas must have been once.
