| Our last weekend in Cambodia came upon us quickly and we promised to take Rith back to his family home one last time. So, bright and early on Sunday morning we headed off, past the PM's house and onto the dirt track which passes for a road, across the river on the tiny ferry boat and thence to the village. After saying hello, my first duty was to play football with the lads, which was the source of much amusement. How can small boys run so fast? At around ten we all headed down to the temple. This time it was a little different: as well as bringing tiffin carriers of food, the worshippers also made symbolic offerings of rice to all the monks, who filed past them in a long line around the pagoda. Very colourful. Back in the village it was time for Rith to swim in the river - too bad I hadn't packed my trunks, the muddy water managed to look almost attractive on such a hot day. Lunch was the usual extended family affair - we stopped counting at twenty - with chicken and rice cooked over an open fire. Somehow we got persuaded to stay for dinner too, so it was almost six before we said our goodbyes and headed back to the city. Some of the girls were having such a good time that they decided to stay back, even though it meant travelling home by motorbike! | ||||
