The other school we chose for Phase 2 is the Regional Teacher Training Center, just down the road from the factory. Here, school leavers from out in the provinces are given two years of free teacher training on the understanding that they will return home to teach in the provinces - something that teachers from the city are unwilling to do. Well before we ever thought of putting computers into the school, we had been impressed by the enthusiasm, friendliness and English ability of the students we had met. They could even understand English humour! With such bright kids in the class, lessons are moving very fast and we hope to finish the basic course before we leave. Some of the teachers are good too, but as in the other schools, the students outshine them. On the strength of the students' abilities and the solid support we have received from the assistant director, we have high hopes that teachers in the provinces will not be completely left out of the computer "revolution" that is slowly sweeping (creeping?) the country.
